Blue Badge Application Help

Getting you closer to your destination.

Blue Badges allow people with disabilities or health conditions to park closer to where they need to be, making travel and daily activities more manageable. You do not need to be able to drive to apply. The badge can be used in any vehicle, as long as the badge holder is either driving or being driven.

The scheme supports people who have severe difficulty walking or moving around by improving access to essential places such as shops, medical appointments, and community facilities. In some cases, you may also be able to request a disabled parking space near your home through your local council.

How We Help

At Grey Matters Consultancy, we help you complete your Blue Badge application accurately and efficiently. The form can be complex, and supporting evidence is often required to explain how your condition affects your mobility. Our experience ensures that your application clearly reflects your needs.

  • Explaining eligibility criteria and identifying suitable supporting evidence
  • Completing the Blue Badge application on your behalf
  • Guidance with renewals and support with appeals if your application has been refused

Blue Badge Eligibility

You are entitled to receive a Blue Badge if you are registered as blind or receive any of the following benefits:

  • The higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) with a score of 8 or above in the ‘moving around’ section
  • A lump-sum War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement payment or Armed Forces Compensation payment

You may also be eligible for a badge if:

  • You have a permanent disability that makes walking short distances (around 80 metres) very difficult
  • You have a permanent disability that prevents you from using parking meters
  • You experience severe pain, breathlessness, or fatigue when walking
  • You have a non-visible (hidden) condition that affects your ability to travel safely or plan and complete journeys

Where You Can Use a Blue Badge

If you have a Blue Badge, you can park in places other drivers cannot, such as designated parking bays for Blue Badge holders. The Blue Badge is linked to you rather than a specific vehicle, so it can be used with any car — including taxis or hire vehicles — as long as you are travelling in it as the driver or passenger.

Your Blue Badge usually allows you to park for free:

  • At parking meters or pay-and-display machines on streets, for as long as needed
  • In disabled parking bays on streets, unless a sign shows a time limit
  • On single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, unless there is a ‘no loading’ sign

Hidden Disabilities

Blue Badges are not only for people with visible physical disabilities. Since 2019, eligibility has been extended to people with conditions such as Parkinson’s, dementia, epilepsy, and other non-visible disabilities. These changes recognise that hidden conditions can also make travel difficult and increase the need for accessible parking.
