Nicola Whate is a Grey Matters franchisee and Life Navigator, representing the Twickenham West area. After a fast-paced, successful career in the corporate world, Nicola made the decision to take control of her life and primarily her work-life balance.

“I am now almost a year in and could not be happier. When I started out there was a lot of information to learn and I needed to make connections in my local area, but I was prepared for this. The best thing is how grateful people are to have someone to help them with the paperwork so that they can apply for something they are entitled to. It’s been lovely to receive hand-written cards and to be recommended by people who have used my service. I’ve also had repeat business! Being part of a Franchise also means that I am not totally on my own and help and support is available, which has been invaluable” says Nicola.

As a key member of the community supporting the elderly and vulnerable, it’s essential that Grey Matters’ life-navigators make strong, trusted relationships with a wealth of different people, from those in the community to local businesses. It was no different for Nicola, who has developed an evolving relationship with fellow franchisee Louise Cobban. Louise is a Guardian Angel Carers franchisee, supporting similar clients with home-based care and support and invited Nicola to hold drop-in clinics to help educate those in the community and her own staff about how Grey Matters can help and what support they may be entitled to

Educating the community through local drop-in clinics

“The drop is clinics provide an opportunity for people to come in and discuss the benefits that they or their relatives may be entitled to. I’ve also been able to educate the Guardian Angel Carers office team on Attendance Allowance and how and why people qualify. Their clients can then use my service to claim Attendance Allowance which can help towards any care at home they are paying for or possibly enable them to increase the hours/visits they have.” Nicola’s drop-in clinics are for anyone who is getting their pension and suffering with long term (physical or mental) health conditions and want to discuss what they may be entitled to. They do not need to be a Guardian Angel Carers service user to visit, they’re open to the whole community. The drop-in clinics aren’t just for Attendance Allowance queries either, Nicola and our other Life Navigators can also help with Blue Badge applications, and Carers Allowance applications. Wills and Powers of Attorney inevitably come into the conversation when discussing these matters and Grey Matters Consultancy can also help here. If you are outside of Nicola’s area but would like some guidance or advice, please on contact us on 033 01628 947066 or send us a message.
